The Hardys are a fictional family on the ABC soap opera General Hospital. The most famous members of the family are Steve and Audrey Hardy.
Background[]
In 1963, Dr. Steven "Steve" Hardy, began working on the seventh floor of General Hospital as the Chief of Internal Medicine. The following year, Nurse Audrey March, arrived in town and fell in love with Steve, culminating in their marriage a year later. However, after a miscarriage, Audrey and Steve's marriage ended in divorce. Audrey then married Dr. Tom Baldwin, but after suffering abuse and becoming pregnant, she divorced Tom and remarried Steve, who adopted her son, changing his name from Tommy Baldwin, Jr. to Thomas "Tom" Steven Hardy.
One of Dr. Hardy's notable achievements as chief of staff at GH was discovering a cure for the Lassa Fever epidemic in 1979. It was during this period that Steve learned from a letter by his ex that the newly hired doctor, Jeffrey "Jeff" Webber, was his son. Despite the initial shock, Jeff and Steve formed a bond. Jeff, learning he had a son, named him Steven "Steve" Lars Webber, honoring Steve and his adoptive father. Due to issues with his unstable wife Heather Grant, Jeff took custody of Steven and left town in 1981. Later, Jeff divorced Heather, married Carolyn, and had two more daughters, Dr. Sarah Webber and Nurse Elizabeth Imogene Webber.
In 1987, Tom Hardy returned to Port Charles upon completing medical school. He married Dr. Simone Ravelle, an African-American pediatrician, and they became the first interracial couple on a soap opera. Following the birth of their son, Thomas "Tommy" Steven Hardy, Jr., Tom departed to aid the relief efforts in Africa. Simone tried to remain loyal but eventually moved on after three years. Upon Tom's return, with hopes of taking Simone and Tommy to Africa, they ended up divorcing.
In 1996, Steve's death in his office left Audrey widowed, deeply affecting the Hardy family as they grappled with his absence. Shortly after, Tom went back to Africa alone. Simone, realizing her son would not accept her new partner, took Tommy and also left town.
In 1997, Jeff and his new wife, Carolyn, went to Sarajevo to assist with the war effort. They sent their teenage daughters, Sarah and Elizabeth, to live with their 'grandmother' Audrey. Sarah has followed a path in medicine, departing and making her way back to Port Charles on two occasions. She now resides in California, while Elizabeth has embraced a career in nursing and was mainly brought up by Audrey in Port Charles.
In 2004, Steven came back to town as a doctor at General Hospital. He soon departed to oversee a trauma unit in Memphis, Tennessee, but returned once more in 2010 as the Chief of Staff. Steven took great pride in walking in his grandfather's footsteps. However, in 2013, he was incarcerated after it came to light that he compassionately ended the life of a patient in agony during his tenure in Memphis.
Elizabeth has settled in Port Charles, falling in love with and marrying Lucky Spencer. Together they have three children: Cameron Steven Webber and Jacob Martin "Jake" Spencer, both adopted by Lucky, and Aiden Webber, their biological son.
In 2016, it was disclosed that Jeff, after leaving Port Charles and remarrying, had an affair with Naomi Dreyfus, resulting in the birth of his youngest daughter, Hayden Barnes. Later, it was revealed that Hayden has a daughter with her ex-fiance, Hamilton Finn, named Violet Finn.
Currently, Jeff resides in Monterey, California with his wife Carolyn, while Audrey remains in Port Charles, frequently babysitting her great-grandchildren Cameron, Jake, and Aiden. Elizabeth is employed as the head nurse at General Hospital.
