The Spencers are a fictional family on the American soap opera General Hospital. Supercouple Luke Spencer and Laura Webber are part of this family.

Background[]
Patricia "Pat" Spencer,[1] Lucas "Luke" Lorenzo Spencer, and Barbara Jean "Bobbie" Spencer were born in Port Charles. Their father, Timothy "Tim" Spencer, was an alcoholic and abuser. Their mother, Elena "Lena" Eckert Spencer, reportedly died from a burst appendix due to her husband's beatings. Believed to have abandoned the family when Luke was seven and Bobbie was three,[2] Tim's departure was followed by a tragic revelation: Luke accidentally killed his mother as a teenager while defending her from Tim. In a subsequent fit of rage, Luke also killed his father. To protect her siblings, Pat sent Bobbie and Luke to live with their aunt, Ruby Spencer Anderson, who operated a bordello in Jacksonville, Florida. [3] Pat then disappeared, and her location remained unknown for decades. In Jacksonville, Ruby had Luke solicit customers, and Bobbie engaged in prostitution. At 16, Bobbie became pregnant and later gave her daughter, Carly Spencer, up for adoption.

Bobbie returned to town in 1977, transitioning from a former prostitute to a nurse, and secured a position at General Hospital. The following year, Luke arrived, and soon after, their Aunt Ruby relocated to Port Charles to be closer to her niece and nephew. Ruby took ownership and management of Kelly's Diner, a role she maintained for over a decade.
After enduring two unsuccessful marriages, Bobbie found some stability when she married Tony Jones in 1989 and adopted his daughter, Barbara Jean "B.J." Jones[4] Tony and Bobbie later adopted a son, Lucas Jones, whom Bobbie named after Luke. Tragically, in 1994, B.J. was rendered brain dead following a van accident at school, and her cousin Maxie Jones, in dire need of a transplant, received B.J.'s heart. This act of generosity left Maxie and her parents, Frisco Jones and Felicia Cummings, eternally indebted to Tony and Bobbie. However, the loss of B.J. further strained Tony and Bobbie's already fragile marriage.
In 1996, Bobbie's daughter Caroline "Carly" Leigh Spencer, born during her time as a prostitute, arrived in town. Upset with Bobbie for giving her up for adoption, Carly slept with Tony, who was estranged from Bobbie, leading to their divorce. Carly also had a one-night stand with A.J. Quartermaine, resulting in pregnancy. While Tony was believed he was the father, it was eventually confirmed that A.J. was the biological father, and Carly gave birth to her son Michael Alan Corinthos II. Over time, Bobbie and Carly developed a relationship, with Bobbie becoming a supportive mother to Carly. Additionally, Bobbie reconciled with Tony, and they amicably co-parented their son Lucas.
Carly later became involved with mob boss Sonny Corinthos, first marrying him in 2000. Sonny adopted her son Michael, and they later had a child of their own, Morgan Stone Corinthos. She eventually discovered that her biological father was not one of Bobbie's clients from her time as a prostitute, but John Durant, a man of her mother's age for whom Bobbie had feelings. Sonny and Carly have since married and divorced four different times. In 2007, Carly married Jasper Jacks, and they had a daughter named Josslyn. However, Carly's ongoing loyalties to Sonny (and A.J.'s brother Jason Morgan) led to her separation from Jax in 2011, and their divorce was finalized in 2013. They shared custody of Josslyn until she reached adulthood.
In 2016, Sonny and Carly's son, Morgan, died in a car bombing. In 2019, Carly welcomed a second daughter named Donna Courtney Corinthos. The fourth marriage between Sonny and Carly ended when Carly divorced Sonny after he developed feelings for Nina Reeves. Following her fourth divorce, Carly chose to relinquish the Corinthos surname and take on the name Spencer, reflecting her affection for her mother, Bobbie.
Between 2017 and 2019, Josslyn's first love, Oscar Nero-Quartermaine, succumbed to a brain tumor. Subsequently, she dated Cameron Webber, and in 2022, they shared their first sexual experience. She faced further trauma when a secretly filmed sex tape of them was released publicly. The fallout from this event led to their breakup, and Josslyn found herself drawn to, and eventually involved with, Sonny's new lieutenant, Dexter "Dex" Heller.
In 2018, Carly's son Michael Corinthos celebrated the birth of his son Jonah Michael Corinthos with Nelle Benson. Unbeknownst to him, Jonah was switched at birth by Nelle with the deceased adoptive son of Brad Cooper and Carly's brother, Lucas. The truth eventually came to light, and after Michael was reunited with his son, renamed Wiley Corinthos, and gained full custody. Nelle tried to flee the country with Wiley, which resulted in her fatal fall from a cliff.
On May 12, 2020, Michael entered into a marriage of convenience with Willow Tait to assist in winning custody of his son, Wiley. Their marriage was subsequently annulled. By 2023, they had reconciled, remarried, and welcomed a new daughter, Amelia Corinthos.
Bobbie passed away on December 31, 2023, in Amsterdam while attempting to resolve Luke's complicated affairs following his presumed death.
Luke[]
Luke arrived in Port Charles in 1978 at Bobbie's behest to distract Laura Webber from Scott Baldwin. Luke's infatuation with Laura grew, and after she reciprocated, they wed on November 16, 1981. Months later, Laura was presumed dead following her abduction by the Cassadine family, but she escaped a year later and reunited with Luke. In 1983, upon learning she was pregnant with their son Lucas "Lucky" Lorenzo Spencer, Jr., they fled town to evade mob boss Frank Smith, who they had incarcerated.
In 1993, Lucky, now a teenager, came to Port Charles, sent by his parents, who had been evading Smith for years. Eventually, Luke and Laura returned, purchasing the Spencer House and resettling in Port Charles. A year later, Laura was pregnant again and gave birth to their daughter, Lesley Lu Spencer, named after her mother, Dr. Lesley Webber.
In 1996, Prince Nikolas Cassadine arrived in town, and it was revealed that he was Laura's son from her time held captive by Stavros Cassadine. Initially, Luke and Lucky wanted nothing to do with Nikolas; however, Lucky eventually grew closer to his older brother, and Luke came to accept him as part of the family. The Spencers were devastated in 1998 when Ruby passed away in her sleep, coinciding with the death of the actress who portrayed her. After Ruby's death, Bobbie and Luke inherited Kelly's, turning it into a family-owned business.
Luke and Laura's separation occurred when Luke discovered that she and Stefan Cassadine had been lovers during her years of captivity. Their marriage faced further challenges when Lucky was presumed dead in a fire in 1999, only to return a year later after being kidnapped and brainwashed by Helena Cassadine. With Elizabeth Webber's assistance, Lucky eventually overcame the brainwashing. Luke and Laura's divorce was finalized in 2001, but they re-engaged in 2002 amidst tragedy. Laura had a nervous breakdown, believing she had killed her adoptive father, Dr. Rick Webber, leading to her commitment to Shadybrook Sanitarium. The Spencer family struggled without Laura, particularly as Luke and Lucky's relationship deteriorated when Lucky joined the PCPD. Luke's parenting of Lulu waned, resulting in her becoming resentful. In 2005, Luke married Tracy Quartermaine for financial reasons, but they genuinely fell in love and had a formal wedding. Tracy became Lulu's stepmother, raising her with the Quartermaine family while Luke often left town.
Lucky Spencer married Elizabeth Webber, the love of his life, on October 31, 2005, and adopted her son Cameron Steven Webber. Months later, Nikolas mourned his late fiancée Courtney Matthews, who posthumously gave birth to their son, Spencer, named in honor of Nikolas' siblings. That year, Elizabeth learned of Lucky's affair with Maxie Jones, which led to her one-night stand and subsequent pregnancy. Following their divorce, Elizabeth had her second son, Jacob "Jake" Martin Webber. Lucky, upon realizing he was not Jake's biological father, chose to adopt him after Jason Morgan, Jake's biological father, was unable to be part of his life.
Laura emerged from her catatonia permanently in 2008 and, after making amends with her family, she departed for further treatment in Paris, France. The following year, Luke's ex-lover, Holly Sutton, returned and disclosed that the con artist Ethan Lovett was their son, born after Lucky and Lulu. Lucky initially felt betrayed by his father's infidelity but eventually accepted Ethan as part of the family.
Elizabeth had an affair with Nikolas when she became pregnant, and the baby was initially thought to be Nikolas', causing a rift between Lucky and his brother. The child was later verified as Lucky's biological son, his third with Elizabeth, and was named Aiden Webber. In 2011, the Spencer family faced another tragedy when Jake was presumed dead following a hit-and-run by an intoxicated Luke, which almost ruined Luke and Lucky's relationship. Lucky married Siobhan McKenna in early May, but their marriage was brief as Siobhan was murdered months later. Overwhelmed by loss, Lucky decided to leave Port Charles. Meanwhile, Tracy divorced Luke, and Lulu married her long-time boyfriend, Dante Falconeri, on December 23, 2011. They now have a son named Rocco Falconeri, born in 2013 via surrogate, Britt Westbourne.
From late 2014 to 2015, Luke's alter ego, known as "Fluke", surfaced, which led to the uncovering of Pat as part of a quest to reveal a lethal secret concerning Luke's parents. The reunion was short-lived, as Pat passed away from heart failure shortly after, resulting in her daughter Valerie Spencer moving to Port Charles to be with her newfound family.
Two months later, Laura came back home upon hearing that Lucky had been kidnapped. Lucky, however, had escaped and disclosed that Jake was still alive, imprisoned by Helena on Cassadine Island. Following Jake's rescue by Luke, Laura, and Lucky, and his safe return home, Luke chose to depart from Port Charles for good.
In early 2016, Dante and Lulu decided to divorce but eventually reconciled and remarried in November of the same year. The Spencer family was surprised to learn of a new member when Valentin Cassadine disclosed that he and Lulu have a daughter, Charlotte Honor Cassadine, conceived through IVF and born in 2009. It was later revealed by Helena's ghost that Charlotte was intended to be Valentin's child with Lulu, not to provide Stavros and Lulu with an offspring, but to create an heir for Helena from Luke's lineage.
In January 2022, Luke was reportedly killed in a cable car accident abroad, a scheme masterminded by Victor Cassadine.
